Updated Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020:
Two In-Person Worship Services are to be scheduled each Sunday morning starting Aug. 30, 2020.
Updated Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020:
Reservations continue to be REQUIRED for all wishing to attend In-Person Worship Services.
Please click here to go to the online reservation form for the In-Person Worship Services.
Congregants will need to reserve their space each week that they plan to attend - there will be no 'standing' reservations. Reservations will open on Mondays at 6:00 a.m., and will close on Fridays at noon, so that our church administration and volunteers can have time to plan for the expected attendance. For any questions, please call the church office.
Our church administration has noted the growing numbers of people wishing to attend in-person, and they are considering adding another Sunday service and working out how to accomplish that goal while ensuring everyone's health and safety.

Updated Tuesday, Jul. 14, 2020:
All who wish to attend In-Person Worship Services as of Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020 will need to reserve their space, until further notice.
These reservations will let our church administration plan ahead so that we may ensure new health and safety standards within the sanctuary, and will also alert them to the possibility of the need for a second Sunday service.

Volunteers are needed to help our congregation and guests as we re-open our sanctuary for our In-Person Worship Services, starting Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020.
The two voluntary positions (as of right now) are:
- Greeter: will stand at the church's open entrances and alert congregation members and guests regarding our new health and safety regulations, including mask-wearing. Will work with ushers who will seat the attendees according to reservations and social distancing guidelines. Will be responsible for warm welcomes and helpful information.
- Parking Patrol Member: will help guide drivers to available parking and welcome congregants and guests. Will direct attendees to the open entrances. Will direct vehicles on departing the parking lot following the service.
Please click here to go to the online form below if you are interested in being a volunteer.
Updated Thursday, Jun. 25, 2020:
After much prayer, discussion, and planning, the Board of Servants have arrived at a plan for regathering for in-person worship and activities as a church family.
We understand that how we are going to be able to do church over the next few months will be quite different than any of us have experienced.
- Church office ONLY: Monday, July 27th
- In-person worship service: Sunday, August 2nd - will be ONE service at 10:30 a.m.
PLEASE NOTE the following new procedures for our in-person worship services:
SIGN-UPS: there will be limited seating at the in-person worship services due to new social distancing guidelines. All will be asked to sign up to attend the services, and the method for signing up will be sent in a future email. If more people sign up to attend in-person worship services than we can accommodate with our new social distancing guidelines, we will consider adding another worship service at 9:00 a.m.
OTHER SUNDAY ACTIVITIES AND CHILDCARE: in addition, until further notice, there will be NO Jodeco Java or Sunday School for all age groups, and no nursery or childcare provided during the worship services. If you bring children to the in-person worship services, we will have activity sheets they can use, or they may use iPads or electronic devices with headphones.
FACEMASKS: for at least the first phase of the reopening process, EVERYONE will be required to wear a facemask while in the church building. If you have your own facemask, we encourage you to bring and wear it. Otherwise, a greeter will give you a facemask at the door. We will send out an email if this requirement changes in the future.
ENTERING THE BUILDING: the doors to the sanctuary from the parking lot will NOT be utilized. Instead, you will meet our greeters at the doors to the hallways on either side of the sanctuary. The sanctuary will be opened 20 minutes before the start of the services.
USHERS: at least during the first phase of our church reopening, an usher will escort you and your family to your seating. Unfortunately, you will not be able to select your own seating, and all family members will be asked to sit together. At the end of the service, the ushers will direct everyone on how to leave while maintaining social distance.
OFFERINGS: no collection plates will be passed around during the services. Instead, we will have boxes placed at the sanctuary entrances/exits. Of course, you can always easily give your tithe or donation here on the website.
RESTROOMS AND HAND SANITIZING: only the atrium restrooms will be used during worship services. We urge all to be diligent in hand-washing. In addition, hand sanitizer stations will be located at each entrance and exit. Feel free to bring your own hand sanitizer if you wish.
LIMITED BUILDING ACCESS: Kuglar Hall, the Children's Wing, the Choir Room, and the Church Office will be closed during in-person worship services.
WHAT WILL IN-PERSON SERVICES BE LIKE? We'll have all the basics - Pastor Dee Dee Lawson's sermons, prayers, music, announcements, and more. However, we will NOT have congregational or choir singing for health reasons - we will listen to solo performers and enjoy their messages and talents. All hymnals and Bibles will be removed from the sanctuary, but you may bring your own or read the words from the large screen at front.
For more information, the North Georgia Conference's recommendations and resources for relaunching and reopening church facilities can be found here.
We thank you in advance for being a gracious, supportive, patient, and understanding congregation during these difficult and trying times. As we work through this regathering process, our primary concern should be to continue to “do no harm,” just as John Wesley taught us, and seek to protect ourselves and our neighbors the best way possible.
Updated Monday, Jun. 22, 2020:
On June 18, 2020, the Board of Servants voted to postpone reopening JRUMC's physical facilities to worship and other public activities. They continue to meet virtually and when specific plans are made for in-person worship services and other events, they will be posted here.
When our facilities open, we'll need lots of volunteers to perform a variety of necessary tasks - everything from resetting up our sanctuary according to new health and safety guidelines to greeting people at the door and alerting them to our updated procedures and policies. Watch this space for more information! When we alert you that our online volunteer form is ready, please let us know how you can help us be ready for our 'New Normal!'
